Trader Joe's is really coming through for our felines this holiday season with an announcement that it's bringing Advent calendars filled with cat treats to its stores very soon. In the seventeenth episode of the grocery chain's podcast, Inside Trader Joe's, Matt Sloan, vice president of product marketing, and special guest, Vice President of Merchandising Colin Fields, gave listeners the inside
litter scoop on the upcoming calendars.
"Last year we came out with the dog Advent calendar, which seemed pretty odd until we got out in the stores and there was quite a following for it," said Colin. "And we heard from our feline-loving customers that we should have something for their cats. So we found it, we developed it, and it's pretty cool." As for what's inside? "These are magical treats made of salmon and seaweed, and cats actually love seaweed."
After apparently sampling one of the treats, Matt said: "You know what? That's not good. But I'm not a cat." Colin reassured listeners: "But if you're a cat, you'll really like that. And after eating 24 of them, your twenty-fifth one will be a gigantic one, shaped like a fish."
These calendars - and hopefully the dog version! - should be hitting shelves soon, so keep an eye out on your next TJ's trip. We can't wait to spoil our kitties with 24 delicious salmon and seaweed treats in the days leading up to Christmas - and then surprise them with their giant fish-shape treat on Christmas morning!
